Rise of the Triad — Nostalgia

Rise of the Triad

Joe Siegler of 3D Realms sent this link to a video of Gaming Nostalgia about Rise of the Triad.

The guy appreciated all the little touches we put in, which is great.

    Hi Tom!

It wasn’t long ago that I rediscovered ROTT, after being an avid player, YEARS ago. But I’ve been hooked, and is possibly my favourite game ever. And sadly, no one I know has even laid eye or ear on the name.

So, I guess I’m congratulating you for such a great game, a little too late (13 years!!).

    Thanks

    Nick

  2. This sure brings back a lot of happy memories. I always favoured ROTT over Doom. When I first say an eyeball kind of slide down the screen I knew I had found something special. And I still get a kick of hearing the enemies lines. “Aha!”, “Intruder”. Really makes me smile.

I’ve only ever played the shareware version though, I guess it’s time to buy the real deal, what with the windows ports and whatnot.

Also, if you have the time, send me a mail and tell me how to create a universe like you’ve done so many times. That whould be great!

so many things i didn’t know rott had! :)

and tom, why not ask id that you’d like to do a new commander keen? i’m sure they’ll let you. :)

  4. I grew up on Keen, Doom, Wolf32, et al… I think ROTT really confused me when I was little. Something about the way the levels worked. Anyway, I loved the cheat codes (DOG mode) and the exit screen jokes.

  5. Anachronox 2 or at least some more dopefish cruising around.

  6. or maybe Keen7? :P

Heh, I’d love to sequels to all o’ those! :)

  8. I’d buy you the rights for all those games if I had the money. Hey, maybe we can start a fundraiser? :)

  9. Once I played it a few times I recognized ROTT to be a really cool game.
It even has an actual no-guns tag game built in. :)

Just a great game! Always has been one of my favorites. But, like all other games, doesn’t come close to my love of Commander Keen. I just love how you can create whole worlds that just grabs the player from the start and just wraps them up and never lets go. Who knows maybe if the MMO is a success then maybe you’ll be able to buy the rights back to Keen. *whistles*
